From the records of Don Scott Burnet, June 7, 2011
"Tennis was actually first played at the West Rouge Centre in 1972, but on a very rough and unpaved "court". After many
requests and prompting by mainly the West Rouge Sports and Recreation Association, three paved courts were installed by
the City of Scarborough on the former parking lot of the Centre.
From a perusal of the minutes of meetings of the West Rouge Sports and Recreation Association, it appears the Tennis Club
operated independently for the first few years. However, the WRS&RA were involved in all request going forward to the City
to upgrade the courts, provide lighting etc. In addition the Tennis Club borrowed $4,000 from the Association which was paid
back in 1977.
It is not certain when the tennis club cut the umbilical cord and went its separate way. The original constitution of the Tennis
Club had a requirement that any changes to the same must have approval of the WRS&RA. In 1984, Gerry Lodge,
President, WRS&RA gave his written permission to omit this requirement when a new constitution of the WRTC was written".
Thank you Don for your input.
